LEE AND HERRING-swindling reimagining of On The Hour’s ‘sport’-obsessed Steve Coogan-portrayed reporter Alan Partridge as an obnoxious chat show host, prone to getting into violent intellectual scuffles with child genii, accidentally gambling away possessions on air, and smugly boasting of wild barbecue-fuelled nights spent listening to The Eagles in Summer Of Love-era Norwich. Top stuff all round, even if nobody ever believed those letters to Feedback from complainants believing him to be real were genuine, and the TV transfer was if anything even better. Though given the quality of some more recent outings, perhaps it’s best if the much talked-about ‘Alan Partridge film’ doesn’t happen after all.

A Radio 4 comedy show that was actually funny. Wonders will never cease.

My Dad once caught an episode of this on the radio & wondered if it was for real, having never listened to On The Hour.
