Great podcast! One of my preferred cartoons as a tot, just as well because Children’s BBC showed it about a hundred times.

Rather than superheroes, they were supposed to be embodiments of Greek Gods (Astrea is a goddess of justice). But they had little capes and spandex outfits, so I’m guessing the Marvel Universe was not lost on Scheimer and Prescott.

There was something a little eerie about it, and there was that episode where Sentinel One turned into a CLOWN, but I loved the music and sound effects. There was one episode where the world is attacked by microwave ovens on stilts, and they made the coolest noise.

Maybe I preferred this to He-Man because the Sentinels weren’t anybody’s shills. And “sentinel” is a brilliant word for any heroes to be called.

I loved the Space Sentinels too! I remember them and other Filmnation cartoons of the time like Tarzan and Flash Gordon having higher production values than rival animated TV kids shows of the time.. It’s the Rotoscoping, which always looks magical when done properly.
