ANOTHER OF those nothing-ventured, nothing-won Sunday morning fillers, with top 70s/80s annoying old bugger De Bono showing us how to “maximise your brain” by using it to think up things no-one else would. Whether these things were of any use to anyone was beside the point – lateralness was all. Example: the “invention” test – take two unrelated things, such as a camera and a tile, and combine them into a new invention (a camera that takes four pictures at once, like tiles). It was pointed out that this was fucking useless.

Ed’s still alive! And still peddling his Six Thinking Hats theory, a bit like Worzel Gummidge and his different heads. He does sound like a bit of a nutter, e.g. blaming lack of dietary zinc for the conflict in the Middle East.
I suppose these days he would be called a “so-called” expert.

I remember this bonkers show as a kid! They played it in the HTV West region very early in the morning during the School Holidays before the fun stuff like the cartoons started. As a creative person myself, I’ve always wanted to get my head around Lateral Thinking. But beyond a few fascinating brain puzzles ( like the short guy taking the lift who always gets off a floor early, or the icicle used as a murder weapon In a sauna) It never really served any purpose. De Bono was taking the piss with follow up books like 6 Thinking Hats and thinking bollocks like Blue Hat thinking was ever going to be taken seriously
