There’s a part of the Opportunity Knocks 1971 final on YouTube wherein Hughie refers to someone as “the fellow with the mellow bellow”, and Google says it was used to describe someone on US radio (and for the title of a Billy Bragg bootleg), so while it’s possible Tel came up with the line independently it had been a phrase in use.
