King Rollo

CUT-OUT ANIMATION beloved of lunchtime schedulers, wherein a mentally-retarded, erm, childlike monarch tried his best to rule his subjects but kept cocking up, much to the chagrin of his long-suffering courtiers and a mischevious cat. The latter was the best thing in it, by dint of always arseing around in the background. Cheery fare (do you see?) in the style of MR BENN, with RAY BROOKS once again on pipes duty.

King Rollo looked a bit like a fat Kenny Everett. Alas, in no episode did he make a demand for some hasenpfeffer.

Possibly the jolliest synth theme tune ever? A hotly contested claim, I know.

I experienced a Proustian rush of nostalgia just before Christmas 2021 when I saw the revival of the popular musical Anything Goes at my local cinema, and the opening and closing sequences were the work of King Rollo Films. I Googled them, and from what I can gather, they are currently working on an animated series based on A Street Cat Named Bob. I’m glad they’re still going.
