Monster Club, The

Subotsky wound up Amicus, completing its last unfinished film under the aegis of his newly-formed Sword and Sorcery Productions. Fittingly, it starred Vincent Price as the proprietor of the eponymous nightclub, giving horror writer R Chetwynd-Hayes (John Carradine) a potted lesson in monster genealogy with three tales – two rather good (with lonely, even sympathetic monsters), one immensely silly (Donald Pleasence, a vampire and a ‘stake-proof vest’), punctuated by musical interludes from The Pretty Things and BA Robertson. Very possibly the only horror film with a reggae theme tune.
