Films: H is for...

Hellzapoppin’

The famously ‘deconstructionist’ film of the famously ‘deconstructionist’ Broadway revue, with Ole Olsen and Chic Johnson unable to throw crap at the audience, but making up for it with a load of Tex Avery-alike ‘being on film’ gags, incompetent projectionist Shemp Howard, shooting Elisha Cook, musical numbers so crap no-one cared when they were broken up halfway through (even in 1941, where crap musical numbers were king), and, in general, one hell of a hullabaloo. Full-on zaniness without the associated tiresome mugging it always seems to travel with these days.
