Force 10 from Navarone

In this sequel to yer actual Guns of Navarone the plot revolves around the two leading characters from that film – Mallory and Miller – being the only blokes who will be able to identify a man who was with them first time but who turned out to be a naughty Nazi spy. A fiendishly conceived plan as Mallory and Miller themselves used to look like Gregory Peck and David Niven but now look uncannily like Robert Shaw and Edward Fox, so although they can recognise him he won’t be able to recognise them. Cunning as a horse.

There’s a cameo with Michael Sheard playing a German soldier, who gets shot trying to stop the Allied soldiers escape from a bunker. It seemed Sheard could pop up in the most unlikely places in the seventies, he appears in the first few scenes of Live And Let Die as a British agent who is killed by a snake.

No, he doesn’t. That’s one of the Time Lords from The Invasion of Time.
But Sheard was supposed to be in LALD.
There was a scene written, the sets built, but never shot, that Sheard was cast and paid for. Bond just finishes a mission, and there’s a nosy gardener played by Sheard, who Bond guides over the fence – only wham – the garden is atop a skyscraper.

Cheers George, but Sheard definitely has a thirty second role in Force 10 where he’s gunned down. Also of interest, he plays a German football commentator in an episode of Randall and Hopkirk Deceased.

    I’m talking about LALD.
Sheard is of course in Force 10, in the same uniform he wore in Escape to Athena the same year.
