Part of the bizarre NBC Experiment in Television, a slot that also included Jim Henson’s Canadian weirdness The Cube and the BBC coproduced animation Pinter People, a rare dabble in Pinter from the US networks. This was followed by ABC’s bizarre Robert Altman-helmed anthology Basements, featuring an Oirish Tom Conti and Brummie-Cockney John Travolta in the Dumb Waiter, set in an oddly Quebecois West Midlands, and The Room with Julian Sands, Annie Lennox, Donald Pleasence (returning from Pinter People) and Linda Hunt, shot on blurry NTSC film-on-video.
