CELLULOID-CENTRED ROUND-UP anchored by dapper CHRIS KELLY in a variety of period knitwear which turned up for six weeks but stayed for a decade. Combination of news, interviews and behind the scenes stuff added up to pretty much your only chance – back then – to see film clips outside of your local Odeon. And SCREEN TEST, of course.

Hard to believe, but in its heyday this was the *only* film magazine programme on mainstreamTV (Barry Norman was on late-night BBC2). Apart from the new releases there were some very interesting shows on the history of film (usually with John Huntley).
The appearances of Leslie Halliwell usually gave me a sinking feeling: A pseudo-intellectual who thought the last good films were made in about 1949. He may have been a fan of Laurel and Hardy but he thought “Once Upon a Time in the West” was “interminably long… empty and very violent”.

I always found this show very exciting as a kid. As the previous poster said, you’d get to see clips of new movies before anyone else showed them – as well as lots of making-off footage of films being shot. Chris Kelly was a dead ringer for a young Benny Hill.
