Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle

THE EDGAR MICE-BURROWS (according to the Ed “Stewpot” Stewart annual) story subject to the usual Filmation cut ‘n’ paste treatment. Usual stymied adventures, often on straight after BIG JOHN, LITTLE JOHN. “Aheoeoeeahhh” call and monkey sidekick bloke present but far from correct.

Quite good AIRC and Tarzan could always rely on his animal jungle friends to help him against people like ivory poachers. It did seem the BBC had a big thing for Tarzan in the mid and late seventies, as they seemed keen to run the Lex Barker and Johnnie Weissmuller films in a block every Christmas, or during the summer school holidays.

The Filmation Tarzan was always saying “Unk!”, I seem to recall. Tarzan seems to have been reassessed as racist now, which is odd because Johnny Weissmuller almost always beat up the invading white guys who were trying to steal some local relic or other. He was definitely crocodile-ist, though, he wrestled one into submission in every film. The same one. Must have had some beef with it.

Also lions always seemed to be on hand to help him out or bring down a villain like a Nazi. There are hardly any lions in western Africa, but it was artistic licence and kept people entertained.
