Soldier and Me

NINE-PART ADAPTATION by David Line of his best-selling children’s thriller. Two boys get pursued by a sinister foursome of Czech emigres on location around Manchester and Stockport, on the bleak uplands of the Pennines and in the granite mountains of the Lake District. GERALD SUNDQUIST was Jim and RICHARD WILLIS played Soldier, the bespectacled young Czech boy who befriended him. Witnessed a shooting and were pursued throughout by the assassins ‘Boss’ and his henchmen, leading them to spring off a 15-foot wall, row a tiny boat across a storm-tossed Wastwater, ride a derelict bike down a steep hill, engage in a rooftop escapade, get shot at by an angry farmer and jump off a moving train in the middle of wild country.

I loved this series and am desperate to get a copy of it to show to my Year 7’s as we are reading it at the moment. Actually, Szolda (Soldier) was Hungarian, not Czech. Does anyone know where I cpould get a copy of the series from?

I’m sure in the book the two kids escaped from London to Norfolk, but it’s 31 years since I read this at school and would love to recap on this excellent story.

The book, by David Line, was also published under the name “Run For Your Life”.

No matter which publisher has released the book, none has managed to provide it with a cover design that emulates the quality of the book itself.

As a matter of interest, the first episode in its entirety, is available to view on YouTube.

Does anyone know if the remaining episodes still exist? This was a series that I remember very fondly and I would love to see it again. I think it may have been re shown on
channel 4 in the 80s? it needs to be available on DVD.
