Chips Comic

THE THING IS, you’ve got this computer, right, which “makes” this comic (somehow), with these various PLAY SCHOOL-esque wackos, including WAYNE JACKMAN, a bloke dressed as dog (Sir Harry’s errant son ANDREW SECOMBE) and possibly ELSA O’TOOLE doing various “antics” or other in permanent zany overdrive. Jeremy Isaacs’ idea of C4 children’s programmes, now God have mercy on us all.

I bought one issue of the comic. I doubt there were many more.

Just to put the record straight, there was no one in Chips’ Comic called Wayne Jackman. It was always just Elsa O’Toole, Andy Secombe as Rover and me as Inky (Gordon Griffin). We did 2 series for Channel 4 in the early 80s. Great fun. There were quite a lot of comics actually (I have them somewhere!) and two annuals as well as two cassettes of the songs from the series. Andrew Secombe went on to find a vehicle more worthy of his talents with Fast Forward, of course.
