    You saved the best for last (er, so far).

    The original of the first choice was broadcast in that Friday teatime slot you mention, so it wasn’t a complete unknown quantity. I liked the remake OK, it was ramshackle but eventful, though perhaps that was a residual appreciation of the leads. Those clips prove they were no actors. Wasn’t funny, either. Bob must have said the name “Mah-teh” about a billion times throughout both series (I think it’s how he pauses to remember his lines).

    Modern Times never caught on in the same way as the second choice. Wonderland even less so. It would be nice to have a “high concept without the high concept” series back, but it’s all feature length stuff now to be shown at film festivals and broadcast on TV shortly after.
