BRYAN, Dora

bryanAs luck would have it, Dora’s main line of work – never knowingly overscrubbed ladies from the wrong side of the dog track – developed in British film as she did, as early caricature cockney concubines in The Fallen Idol and The Blue Lamp gave way to A Taste of Honey. In between was her, ahem, ‘favour acquiring’ headmistress in The Great St Trinians Train Robbery, and the irritant sidekick to Glynis Johns’s mermaid in Mad About Men. And hers was the hotel featured in Carry On Girls, to boot!

FINEST HOUR:
Has to be Rita Tushingham’s boozy mum and walking ‘biological phenomena’ in A Taste of Honey.
