I remember listening to this at junior school during the morning. We had to send away for an associated book that went with the series. Seemed to remember that it was true “edge of the seat” stuff for us 10 year olds who felt incredibly let down when the final episode revealed that it had all been a huge hoax. But then an announcement was made that a new (real this time!) object had been sited and it was on course for collision with the Earth……Object Z was returning! But the magic had gone and I never did find out what happened in the sequel! It must have had a profound effect on me though as I still remember it 45 years later. Where can I hear it again>

Object Z returns followed the storyline from `The Kraken Awakes` This time it was a real alien invasion!

I live in Sweden and I remember being absolutely blown away by this show, both seasons, but I had no idea it could be listened to on the radio. Or have I misunderstood something? At any rate, I’d love to see this on DVD. Fat chance, I guess. Not much commercial appeal there. It wasn’t exactly Thunderbirds, but, man, I loved that show.

Hi, I live in the UK and I’m 58 years of age.
I believe “Object Z” had a scene in it where the so-called “aliens” transmitted an image to television screens on Earth. I recall the image being like an eye and there was a background noise something like the chirping of crickets or cicadas. Please can anyone confirm this dim and distant recollection? I tried for years to find the title of the series where I saw this scene, as it stuck in my mind. I found the title by remembering that the actor Arthur White (brother of David Jason) was in it and then looking at his list of appearances on IMDB. “Object Z” and “Object Z Returns” are missing from a number of TV nostalgia sites, which is why I had difficulty in tracing it.

Just seen this … I certainly remember the eye looming out of the TV screen! (plus what seemed to be its “death scene” where a huge explosion occurred and the eye slowly closed) At the age of seven a lot of this went over my head, but I remember the eye was a talking-point at school the next day!

I remember the eye too! Pretty scary stuff for a six-year-old, I can tell you! Isn’t *any* of this show still around, apart from the 5 minutes on YouTube?

I’ve only this very minute come across this. I too was captivated by the programme. I was aged 10 at the time. Strangely, I don’t seem to recall details as well as the other comments here, whereas usually I do. What I do remember was that at the same time as this there were articles in the newspapers about a real asteroid, Icarus, which only needed to alter its course a little to be a threat to Earth. All this added to the excitement of the series for me.
I’d love to watch it again.
