Break in the Sun

DRAMATISED SERIES BASED on a Bernard Ashley novel. Centered around a ginger girl called Patsy who ran away from an unhappy home in a London tower block (aren’t they always?) to sail off on a boat with a group of actors. Whole thing witnessed by Roland Browning lookalike friend who colluded with her Dad (BRIAN HALL – Terry the chef in FAWLTY TOWERS) and who tracked her down to Margate and ultimately to closing encounter at the top of a rollercoaster.

Patsy was played by Nicola Cowper, following this, I believe she starred in an ITV series called something like “Dear Heart”.
I remember watching this, whenever I hear “Golden Brown” by the Stranglers, it reminds me a bit of the music for this, unlikely that the Stranglers track was used, as the series predates it by about a year…

The theme music to ‘Break In The Sun’ was John Renbourn’s ‘Reflections’.

Patsy Bligh was the name of the character. Ginger haired girl. Boats. Acting. Quite a solemn drama as I recall, went out during normal Children’s BBC teatime programmes.
