Harry Hill’s Fruit Corner

Will you the pork, or will you the lamb?RADIO cottoned on to the TV Burper-in-waiting long before TV did, and this sketch show ran for absolutely ages without anyone really noticing. All the early days regular characters – Nana Hill, Alan Hill, Little Alan Hill, Finsbury Park etc – were all present and correct, as were pre-retronostalgia boom special guests like Rolf Harris and Jon Pertwee. Slightly less authentic celebrity voices were often provided by Alistair McGowan, who also joined forces with Hill for brilliantly named forgotten one-off special, When Harry Met Ally.

The precursor to one of the best musical moments in my estimation – Bernard Manning sings The Smiths!

  2. Little Alan goes "tap tap tap"

    “Burt, are you playing Yahtzee?”

“That bulb’s not going to blow, is it?” (quoth Jan Leeming)

Frank Sinatra, on accidentally washing a pair of red underpants in with his white shirts and waiting for the spin cycle to end: “Luck be a lady tonight…”

    Hilarious programme.

There was a televised spin-off called “Harry Hill’s Fruit Fancies” which ran on BBC 2 in the nineties, briefly. Episodes were ten minutes long. No-one ever saw them.

This was broadcast late at night, and I used to listen to it in bed, often drifting off before the end. As a result, I’ve never been sure how accurate my memories of it actually are. Did Burt Kwok really come on to sing “Hey Little Hen” most weeks or did I dream it?
