Brian Moore, Nick Owen, someone who looks like Hazel Irvine and spaghetti. Erm, not Italia ’90?

This must be Italia 90, though Hazel Irvine’s presence is a tad confusing…

It is from 1990, but it’s not the World Cup.

Not something to do with Paul Gascoigne going to play in Italy? – That doesn’t really sound right to me, it’s just a wild guess. Channel 4 did that ‘Gazzetta (ha!) Football Italia’ show, but it wasn’t them was it?

It’s nothing to do with football…

I thought it might be the anniversary of Panorama’s ‘spaghetti picking’ April fool; but that was in 1957, so it wasn’t a particularly significant anniversary.

How can this be anything else other than the 1990 World Cup?

Unless Mooro, Hazel and Nick were involved in some kind of spaghetti-eating contest during Telethon 90, or something?

The info with the pic says it’s from the 1990 Tour De France.

I think the picture library has got it wrong, although of course Nick did present the Tour De France on Channel 4 in 1986.

I’m not sure if he posed in a stripy shirt with a beret and a string of onions, though – I’d like to think so.

This is definitely Italia 90 – Hazel was ITV’s Scotland reporter for that tournament, and she also filled the Welsby role on Scotland v Costa Rica, as he was at the England v Ireland game also played that day.

Isn’t it lovely that Brian Moore’s become a household(ish) name again of the back of the repeats for “The Big Match Revisited.”

Of course it’s Italia 90 – the 1990 Tour de France didn’t visit Italy. The only cross-border excursion was into Switzerland and Geneva. Unless they were doing an homage to Claudio Chiappucci…

BTW the best thing about that Clough docu last night was the extremely rare footage of someone actually buying a copy of League Football magazine…

Whoever that bloke is on the left, his head looks uncannily like London Planatarium.

I suspect if I look hard enough this won’t be the only nod to Birkenhead’s finest in the comments on this website.

He always seemed to look 60 when he was 40, Brian Moore. This must be Italia 90 as ITV didn’t cover the Tour de France then and Brian Moore was a football commentator, actually one of the best. Nick Owen is now better known for having the most unwanted job in sport: he’s the chairman of Luton Town.
