Professor Lobster

ODDBEAT ODDMENT of a kids’ semi-educational series about building and architecture. Professor Ken Martin from The Royal Institute of British Architects was your bristling titular boffin, arriving in an battered red mini with crappy lobster claws stuck on the doors to teach a group of kids the rudiments of the building trade, then getting them to mix concrete in the studio. Latterday impact on redevelopment of 21st century brownfield sites unknown.

Ken Martin still practices architecture in Liverpool, his most recent project was the new New Brighton pavillion (in New Brighton! Wirral)

Hey, i was in this as a kid. My school provided the audience for the whole series. Just wondered if you know how to go about getting a copy of it? Tried ITV but they don’t respond.

    Any help would be appreciated

I remember one episode featured bridges made of uncooked spaghetti, some of which were up to holding a weight on toy car wheels.

It is certainly a morris minor, and the car still exists, claws and all.

Never saw the programme but did see the car 3 weeks ago.

I was also a member of the audience along with some friends at school we loved the experience.
Anna your old man was brill!
We learnt a lot whilst we were there and were kept amused in between by Peter Simon (He was well funny).

    Nice childhood memories.
    If you don’t know, ask!

I was Lizzy lobster – what a blast from the past working in recruitment now a million miles from spaghetti bridges and beams and goodness only know what else. Great time travelling around the country with Ken and the crew can honestly say did not appreciate how lucky I was at such at young age. My children are amazed when I show them all the pictures.

The car had the most embarassing horn and Ken loved to honk it for extra attention.
