Early 1980s on ITV (TVS)

"I thought I was the fairy" etc. etc.INSIPID CARDBOARD jungle-set mincing with the rotund campmeister’s rotund campmeister, CHRISTOPHER BIGGINS. The actual content is thankfully lost in the mists of time, but early appearance of the dread kiddieslandword “gunge” heralded the swamp round, with contestants making their way over the surface of a huge studio tank of orange-green lasagne via stepping stones that may be solid… o-ho-hore not!!! Forsythean catchphrase: “Safari… so-goody!” Female number two in the proceedings was pre-Enders GILLIAN TAYLFORTH. Always ended: Biggins – “Say goodbye Gillian”. Taylforth – “Goodbye Gillian”.

TV CREAM SAYS: "MY, THAT IS A BIG GIRAFFE!"

I’ll always remember my mother seeing On Safari and describing Gillian Taylforth thus: “Dressed up like that and a voice like a coalman.”
