Stop, Look and Listen

CHRIS TARRANT’S uvular midlands thwack narrated a different “look at life” film each week. Iron refinery, dustcarts, coal mines and stenography. Much project work followed on after.

The only one I remember is the baked beans factory.

When I was engineering student an Uni in the early 90’s, the class was shown a very SL&L-esque film of Jane Lapotaire explaining the workings of a 1970’s underpant factory. Or was it Susan Penhaligon…

I also remember the baked beans SLL edition – but only because the tool of a teacher at the time thought it was Kenny Everett doing the vocal cord honours.

It was the first time I remember arguing with a teacher over a point of factual correctness.

Remember it had a quirky theme tune and was hosted by Chris Tarrant – but very little else beyond…

I also remember the Baked Beans one.

The theme was a very 1970s flute driven piece.

The Stop, Look, Listen theme was High Life by Tany Turens, from a 1975 Regency Line library music album called Rockin’ in Rhythm.
