TV: F is for...

Falcon Crest

PREPOSTEROUS VINEYARD vagaries courtesy of shameless DALLAS rip off relocated to Napa, er, Tuscany Valley. Seemed to be on every afternoon on ITV for a period in the mid 80s. Horrible theme and horrible titles (helicoptered aerial antics above acres of boring wine plants). About a thousand people in the cast. LANA TURNER showed up at one point. Requisite posh Brit for Yank women to eye up: SIMON MCCORKINDALE.

I remember that Tyne Tees showed the first couple of series early Sunday evenings – just as we as a family went out to evening Mass. Not having a video recorder then, we would watch the first half hour then our American soap loving neighbour would come knocking on our return to give us a rundown of the 2nd half hour (I seem to remember she also did this when my mother worked night shift and missed Knots Landing and Flamingo Road). Tyne Tees even made a boo-boo at the start of a new series (second or third?) of Falcon Crest and showed the second episode instead of the first. The continuity announcer had to read an apology before showing the first episode the following week. Confused? So were VT at Tyne Tees.

I think my Mum gave this a go, but didn’t get into it as much as Dallas or even Dynasty. Even the The Thornbirds seemed to be above this on her Super Soap ranking.

I remember BBC1 managed to accidentally repeat the first part of a 2 parter Fantastic Max story when the second part should have been shown!

The second part was shown early on the next Saturday morning in one of the slots before Going Live!.
