Children of the Dog Star

NEW ZEALAND export about a Tearaway Girl (NB: UK kids dramas = Posh Kids; US kids dramas = Sassy Kids; Australasian kids dramas = Tearaway Kids) who discovers a 7000-year-old spaceship from the Dogstar, which starts to control her mind. Also threw in Maori legends, land rite issues, and usual “ambiguous” ending.

I recall this being really well done for a kids series. The alien setup was well-thought-out (one of several sentient extraterrestrial probes stuck in swamp in 4000BC or thereabouts whilst “fellows” return to home planet) and the way the alien was slowly revealed as parts were retrieved from the swamp (notably some kind of stick with an opening bit at the end, bit like some kind of metal-flower). I also seem to remember that, rather than the kindly or “wacky” English-speaking aliens popular in kids drama, Kolob “talked” in some kind of weird gutteral alien language which made him/her/it quite creepy at the time.
