Odd tale by David Halliwell of a hippyish youth breaking into a middle-aged couple’s house and their subsequent relationship with him, niftily told by cutting back and forth from each person’s perspective on the events, so interior thoughts, dialogue and the appearance of characters and house alters with each change of perspective.

I remember this Play For Today on BBC 1 in 1972 as a fourteen year old and finding it fascinating as well as entertaining. The idea that a person would see him/her self other than how others see them hadn’t really occurred to me at that age, so when the play repeated many of the scenes but from each of the three main participants’ viewpoints, the different impressions that the characters had of each other and their alternative views of what happened really was a light bulb moment for my emerging adolescent mind and suggested to me that others are not necessarily aware of our own inner insecurities and doubts. It’s a pity that there doesn’t seem to be a a copy to buy or view online because I’d love to watch it again.
