Has the lamentable, daytime TV version of ‘Just A Minute’ been rendered admissable to Cream Valhalla yet? I watched it through a fug of studentry, but recall and still cringe at the repeated booking of Wendy “Pauline Fowler” Richards on the TV version. Her inability to grasp the rules and possible educational gaps didn’t make her floundering comic in the way the producers perhaps conceived, but rather aroused sympathy, showcased her short temper and applied gravity to many a viewer’s jaw. Why clips of this effort, particularly Parsons’ preening impatience with Richards and, well, everyone around him – and Richards’ performance – has never made it into a ‘TV Hell’ list, boggles the mind.
