Thirty Years Of Number Ones

RESHUFFLE replacement for Pick Of The Pops in Sunday lunchtime oldies slot, in which Fluff played every British and American number one from 1960 to 1990. On one memorable occasion, the years were USA 1960 and UK 1987, which led to Connie Francis and Marty Robbins going out on the same programme as Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley and M/A/R/R/S. Also much excitement to be had from hearing all those mysterious US chart-toppers that had bombed in the UK and had never been more than faintly puzzling names on paper.

I remember this being a popular show with my Dad & brother, even if Fluff tended to start talking over the songs well before the end.

I’ve still got some songs on tape, recorded of the show, complete with Fluff’s links.

It is fascinating, those songs that were huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge in the US but for whatever reason just bombed here.
Something like You Light Up My Life – which somehow didn’t click here, despite the similar likes of One Day At A Time and No Charge hitting big.
