Radio 1: The Shows

Radio Tip Top

ULTIMATE left-field choice for primetime signings in the form of pirate DJs stroke cottage industry Kid Tempo and The Ginger Prince, stylised sixties hipster types in that short-lived yet massive Mike Flowers/Tony Ferrino mould, who purportedly broadcast live from The Starlight Ballrooms using ‘Lunewyre Technology’. Permanent fixtures in decidedly strange sonic universe included Postman Patois, hopeless covers band Blinder, loads of old easy listening discs, and their own amusingly repetitive weekly chart. Then, just as abruptly, they were gone.

Must have listened to half a dozen times at least back in the ’90s (whatever happened to comedy on Radio One, do they still do any?) and can recall nothing about it whatsoever which doesn’t say much about the impression it had on me. “Kid Tempo and The Ginger Prince” and “Lunewyre technology” ring bells but apart from that nowt.
