Loose Talk

HIGH-CONCEPT Iannucci-instigated ‘Political Comedians Do Question Time’ gambit (i.e. Frank Skinner and Linda Smith chuckle at headlines about the European Monetary Union), jointly fronted by heavyweight preventers-of-words-from-getting-in-edgeways Mark Thomas and Kevin Day, started off well but over the years degenerated into laddish babbling just in time for post-Loadedness to come along.

Eddie Izzard did one solitary appearance on Loose Talk, and no comic before or since matched it.

By the time Pat Condell and Nick Wilty were being booked every week, it had ceased to be funny. When it transferred to telly, it got even worse. But the early days – Thomas and Day introducing Hurst, Hancock, Smith, Skinner, McAulay, even Richard Morton – was extremely promising.

One of Ian Hislop’s first TV appearances was on the TV version, which was shown on Channel 4 in it’s early days.
