Creamguide(Films) Commentaries: Run For Your Wife

runforyourwife

Ever said ‘films ain’t what they used to be’? Well, here’s proof! John Chris, Craig and Jack as they suffer through the truly execrable RUN FOR YOUR WIFE from 2011. In the unlikely event you have a copy of this monster flop don’t bother watching along with the panel; it’s not worth it. It really is that bad. Indeed, there’s probably a joke to be made about running for your life instead but we really can’t be arsed thinking of it. Still, the commentary is fun! Honest! .  If you don’t want to listen to it using our player (above), then download it (66 MB). Or, to save you all this hassle, just subscribe to our podcast via iTunes. And this is our RSS feed.

Isn’t the set the same backlot used on the Bill and Family Affairs?
The bloke at 8.05 is Nicky Henson, and the woman with wheelchair is Jacki Piper from the 70s ‘Ons.
    My mum saw
Noises Off! was Bogdanovich, Winner’s farce was A Chorus of Disapproval.
Holland gets billing on the opening credits.
David Bradley mostly did theatre, and a lot of Granada stuff i.e. he’s . He’s in a Professionals playing an East German psycho called “Tony Kristo”.
The comedy neighbour’s sitcom was William Gaunt’s No Place Like Home. Gaunt appears too.
Lee Mead? Of Any Dream will Do – that’s him, but my mam thought he was called Liam Mead.
Fred Wedlock sang “oldest swinger in town”, didn’t he?
“man with a gun” = is that from the Machine Gunners?

The film Chris Diamond, CBE is quoting is the Seventh Sign – a film which seemingly was written to cash in on the Omen, but the script was put in a drawer for ten years, then found and made into a bloody weird film, which begins with Hamilton-born US soap hunk Ian Buchanan as a Scottish, vaguely Capaldi-esque young metereologist – Mr. Huberty who is brought by some mad Israelis to a part of Israel that looks a bit like California and then asks why – thinking it’s a terrorist attack only to find a frozen solid village – Sodom…
And it is also a sequel to Monsignor – as they both feature Leonardo Cimino, the old Jewish bloke off V as an alt-universe Pope.

My mum saw a production of Run for Your Wife with Frank “Father Jack” Kelly.
Jim Diamond sang the Boon theme. “Hi ho, silver! Gotcha Lone Ranger!”

Totally agree about TV and film being unable to mock up convincing newspaper headlines (generally speaking the font and house style is completely wrong, as is every word being capped up US-style); one of the few exceptions that gets it right for me is the movie Notting Hill and its Evening Standard and Empire magazine front pages.
