Creamguide(Films) Commentaries: Creepshow

creepshow

Hiya pals! It’s the second part of our 1982 scary double as Chris, Craig and Jack dive into George the Aero’s excellent portmanteau offering CREEPSHOW. Join in by arguing furiously with your near neighbours but then agree on how great Leslie Nielsen was then spend the rest of the day mothering over wilfully obscure TV shows. It’s easy! As usual, kick in as the ident moves on and enjoy. However, watch out for a Stilogean interjection near the top of the shop.  You’ll know it when you hear it.  If you don’t want to listen to it using our player (above), then download it (140 MB). Or, to save you all this hassle, just subscribe to our podcast via iTunes. And this is our RSS feed.

And here it is on Soundcloud…

    Glynis Johns not Dora Bryan.

Clive Barker – is he related to Ted Robbins too? He became shite when he moved to America and his accent got all portentous/pretentious.

The Vault of Horror one has a weird connection with Octopussy – as they seem to use the same market set elements and they both have the same actor – Ishaw Bux as a Fakir.

Cilla sang the theme to the sequel, Alfie Darling – with Alan Price, which my dad loved without having an knowledge it was a sequel. The song Alfie was used originally for promotional purposes and Cilla sang it first, but the Cher cover was added for the US release.

Fritz Weaver was in a musical of Sherlock Holmes in Broadway and his Watson was peter Sallis – who got the role by mistake. The director wanted Peter Sellers – the casting agent got a bad line and it wasn’t until Sallis arrived in NYC that they realised they got the wrong man. And they had to keep him.

John Bishop went to university with my cousin Steven and apparently got crushed that Steven ran off with his ex, Lucy. Lucy and Steven are now married happily for twenty-odd years.

Brightway Billy – was that the thing in Beasts?

You should do the POseidon Adventure – watched it yesterday while suffering from insomnia – and noticed one of the more prominent extras in the dinner scenes is a black woman in a sari – trying to make it look more exotic and international. it’s like “a black woman is too mundane for such a glamorous INTERNATIONAL ship, put her hair in a bun and do her up in a sari and gold earrings”.

    Doesn’t Romero live in Canada?

The one you are forgetting in Vault is the only sitcom movie Amicus made – with Robin Nedwell and Geoffrey Davies appearing in an EC/Doctor in… crossover episode with Michael Craig shoehorned in as “fading British film star name”, and Arthur Mullard as a gravedigger.

Marblehead manor? was that that American sitcom that tried to be a British sitcom with Linda Thorson and an English butler when post-Magnum every US show had to have a stock snotty-noted Brit, eg Devon Miles, that butler in Fantasy Island played by Roger deBris from the Producers?

Marblehead is the name of a film with Shanna Becker and Asylum star Richard Lounello – and another with Erin Blaisdell, CliffordLee, Razorwire Pictures and Chicago Dracula/Star Trek Generations’ Christopher James Miller, not the NFL/Gone in 60 Seconds/Kingsman bloke

Portmanteau horrors are still a thing on the indie horror scene, ABCs of Death, V/H/S, Southbound, that one with Anna Paquin at Halloween, etc. You can bet all them that made them love Creepshow.

You should do Porky’s, Police Academy 2 and/or The Boys in Blue. All on DVD.

Dangerfield subsequently underwent a McCallum-style “regeneration” into Nigel Havers, n’est-ce pas?
