Creamguide (Films) Commentaries: Give My Regards to Broad Street

Creamguide (Films) Celebrates 20 years of TV Cream with a special commentary on Alf’s Button Afloat, but then accidentally deletes it. So, that means you’re left with this instead – some TV Cream related chatterings and a lot of Macca opining. What will the Fab Three make of Pull McCockoff’s self-scripted cinematic opus? Has Macca ever written anything as exciting as the original theme to Pebble Mill At One? These are the burning issues covered in this recording, plus we reveal the long-standing grudge between Chris Moyles and TV Cream and how you can cheat on Mr and Mrs.

Kick start theme, Shammy Dab theme, the story of Creamguide/Creamguide films, the bee joke, why did man had a big orange for a head,FARMHOUSE KITCHEN, yes. I’m making a list of subjects from the lost commentary, I’m like Ian Levine with his extensive notes on missing episodes, and when you do TV Dregs on this episode, I write it off, because it is covered, and we have heard about it now.

    1. Yes, it is Jeremy Child and Dr. Legg.
    2. The guy with the shades is L’Hsen Chang, from the Talons of Weng-Chiang, John Bennett. He’s not the Doctor in NSNA, that’s Michael Medwin, he’s the doctor in the same scene, but in Porridge.
    3. Peter Webb directed some Thames light en/kids stuff, i.e. Tomorrow People.
    4. Sean Hayes
    5. Eric Stewart of 10CC.
    6. The CHiPs replacement was Caitlyn/Bruce Jenner.
    7. Bruce’s daughter was in Guys and Dolls with her husband, David Van Day, Theresa Bazar and two other sorts.
    8. Long Weekend, and it was on BBC. Long Weekend features a cameo from the creator of Waiting for God, Michael Aitkens.
    9. Richard Ridings.
    10. John Henshaw.
    11. Roy Scammell did indeed work on B7/Doctor Who.Herbie Flowers was in Blue Mink, Sky and T-Rex.

The ignorance of the comments on Lennon and Beatles is astounding. Stick to the film and it’s entertaining.

Definite fingerprints of Clements and LaFrenais on the script – on one that was flatlining before their doctoral hands reached it. However the ‘Let It Be’ fan forum points out that the plot and script heavily resembles one which George Martin worked on with Peter Sellers and John Lennon – a pseudo Ealing reboot mooted to have been filmed in the early 1970s, called ‘The Long Play’ about a thief stealing master tapes from a musician who then goes on the hunt for them. Clement and La Frenais worked on versions of the script, Macca perhaps heard the basic plot and rejigged it, with Sellers and Lennon gone.

Broad St really would be the ideal place to hide the master tapes as the station was semi derelict by 1984, hardly anyone was using it, and in the No More Lonely Nights video, a tramp and Macca sitting in the concourse would sum up how forgotten Broad St was. Also for all the film was panned, No More Lonely Nights was a decent enough single that went top ten.
