This is the very first film we hired from our local video club when the family eventually bought a video recorder. I must have watched it hundreds of times since and certain bits still make me laugh. A shame that the subsequent movies in the series were sanitised to appeal to a more “family” audience (namely no proper swears and no full frontal nudity or blatant sexual activity)

It was a favourite locally among corner shops that rented out videos in the mid eighties, which like Joanne, is how I first saw Police Academy. More adult, more knowing than the sequels, which by the fourth instalment had become terrible, I always rate the original Police Academy as one of those adult tinged, feel good comedies the Americans did so well in the mid eighties. ( I’m also a huge fan of Risky Business and Revenge of the Nerds).

This film series seemed to end up in a cycle of diminishing returns, and a couple of attempts at a TV series after it had overstayed it’s welcome.
I also remember the series being a video shop favourite, possibly because some shops let you rent out 2 films in a series at a discount.

Yes, I saw the original Police Academy and Police Academy 2 in a two for one deal, where you obtained the second film at half price. Both good films and kept us entertained one summer night when there wasn’t much on the television.
