The proper Titanic film, of course, in which Kenneth More, Honor Blackman, Kenneth Griffith, David McCallum, Geoffrey ‘Catweazle’ Bayldon, Bee ‘are you saying ‘Ni!’ to that old woman?’ Duffel, Gerald ‘Adamant’ Harper, Andrew ‘Quatermass’ Keir, Stratford ‘Barlow’ Johns, Desmond ‘Q’ Llewelyn, Derren ‘Special Branch’ Nesbitt and Norman ‘Simon Simon’ Rossington all conspicuously fail to wear white trousers with racoon-tail key rings on their belts, invent the moonwalk and stiffly mime pouring a drink in front of a bunch of bewildered-looking teenagers who only came to see Depeche Mode.

Gerald Harper and David McCallum (and indeed, Jeffrey Daniel), still going strong!

So is Derren Nesbitt, he starred in a terrific comedy/drama called Tucked recently where he played a drag queen.

I thought Gerald Harper had passed on a few years ago, but I must have been thinking about someone else.

I just don’t get the Depeche Mode reference here. Anybody else?

It’s a reference to the performance on Top Of The Pops of the song A Night To Remember by Shalamar in 1982, featuring Jeffrey Daniel doing the moonwalk even before Michael Jackson made it part of his act.

Crikey. Thanks for clearing that up richardpd. I think I’ve guessed more 321 clues correctly than the Shalamar/ Depeche Mode above
