Iron Maiden, The

One of Gerald Thomas’ other films, this 1962 effort concerns an American firm thinking of planning to buy a British made passenger aircraft. As if that’s not fanciful enough it all comes unstuck because the daughter of the American firm’s owner has a spat with the plane’s designer, because obviously you can’t conclude a big business deal if your little girl doesn’t like the person that’s building the plane you want to buy. On the plus side though there’s George ‘Inigo Pipkins’ Woodbridge, Joan ‘your mum’s handbag’s on fire’ Sims, Sam Kydd, Jim ‘National Health’ Dale, Anton Rogers and, it says here, the Duke of Bedford. It’s a great honour, sir.

The Duke of Bedford is in this, yes, because it was filmed on the grounds of Woburn Abbey which he owned. Apparently he became persona non grata among the nobility for commercialising the place. Now most of them are at it.
