Girl on a Motorcycle

Marianne Faithfull ditches Alain Delon, zips up a once-risqué leather jumpsuit and, er, rides aimlessly about continental Europe (and, more importantly, a terrifically unglamorous grass-verged semi-rural late ’60s England) having grassy lay-by sex, ‘naughty’ blood-and-rose-thorn flashbacks, painfully solarised ‘psychedelic’ reveries and daft voiced-over cod-philosophical one-liners before (and sorry if this spoils the majestic plot for you) rubbing herself up too enthusiastically on the saddle and running into the back of a lorry in this misbegotten film directed by cinematographer extraordinaire Jack Cardiff.

When Alex Cox introduced this on Moviedrome his bemused pronunciation of actor Roger Mutton’s name was a comedy highlight. But nothing beats the denouement of the actual film for true hilarity. Marianne hates this film so she says, but if you think of it as unintentional comedy it’s quite enjoyable.
