Forbidden Planet

The Queen Mother of science fiction films, with uncredited animation from Disney and rather cheekily credited co-writing from Shakespeare, plus turns from Leslie Nielsen, James ‘Roscoe P Coltrane’ Best and, as the voice of the robot, Marvin Miller, the voice of the Commissioner in the Pink Panther cartoons.

Still great to watch even today. The Krell facilities are staggering to behold “24 miles…”. In a drunken discussion recently my brother and I surmised the the Krell structure went @ 160 miles deep into the planet; depending upon the crustal thickness that would have went into the mantle of the planet for sure. Science in action. A real favourite and one to watch in HD widescreen, really does stand out then.

As well as the robot many other props were reused as well, the space suits turned up in The Queen Of Outer Space.
