Compliance! As nippers, we were always amazed by how the big, silver, nut-shaped ship managed to look like it was floating so well…until we watched it again and noticed in a scene where it’s sitting on top of a hill that you can see the shadow of the scaffolding it’s sitting on. Anyway, you know the story -surely? – which features Paul ‘Pee Wee Herman’ Reubens as the voice of the spaceship…and no one else really and to be perfectly honest, if ever there was a film that *should* have featured Dabney Coleman, it was this one.

The ship’s effects were farily good for the time. The “take me 20 miles from here” bit still makes me smile.
I’m sure much of the target audience didn’t get the fill jist of the opening scenes being in 1978, considering not many would have born then.

Er, Sarah Jessica Parker after “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” but years before “Sex And The City”? Lambert from “Alien”? Dr. Johnny Fever from “WKRP In Cincinnati”?
Also gets bonus points for an end credits sequence that always stays intact every time it’s on BBC1 (see also “Short Circuit”).

It starts in 1978 presumably because director Randall Kleiser directed Grease, which was released in that year.
Fun fact: the kid in this left acting soon after and ended up robbing a bank while wearing a woman’s wig (as a disguise). Well, I never, a troubled child star? Yes, yet another one.
