Rich Hall’s Red Menace, Tuesday, 21.00, BBC4

After the terrifying nuclear paranoia last night, this documentary should be slightly less unsettling, as Rich Hall examines the conflict between Uncle Sam and the Russkies over the latter part of the last century. As he points out, it wasn’t just in global politics that this played out, but throughout pop culture and in sport, on any occasion when East met West, whether that was in the boxing ring or even on the chessboard. And then after that at half ten it’s a rare screening on the Beeb of Dr Strangelove, preceded by an appreciation from one of the many people who reckon it’s the best film ever made, Steve Coogan.

I remember my Dad videoing Dr Strangelove in about 1990 & watching it on a Saturday afternoon.

The recording ended with the BBC2 pastel shaded clock as it was the last programme of the night.
