TV Cream

Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain, Wednesday, 21.00, Channel 4

This began last week but, natch, we forgot to bill it. And while you may indeed baulk at the idea of a three-part biography of a rather inconsequential television personality of seemingly minimal talent, the original Big Brother does seem a million years ago now, when it really was a national talking point and received acres of column inches in broadsheets, and Jade did become, if not the first, then certainly the most famous of a new breed of celebrity, and the punchline to pretty much every joke on TV and radio for a while. Of course, it all had a sad ending, and this episode looks at the precise moment we decided to wash our hands of the whole thing, the horrible racism row where Channel Four announced it had nothing to do with them despite the fact it was happening on a television programme that they were entirely responsible for.
