Cream over Britain

TV Cream’s map of Britain – slight return

Yes, it’s back!

Seeing as we’ve reached bank holiday time once more (for three quarters of the UK at least) and given summer’s also gone, we thought we’d heave the tarpaulin off our cartographical compendium of the nation’s premier pop cultural stamping grounds.

Thanks for all your submissions since we launched this thing back in May. Hopefully there are enough places on the map to keep your retro synapses purring on through the autumn.

Simply click on an icon to learn more about each particular location. And please feel free to continue nominating your own sites for inclusion.

Can we have Cowcaddens, Glasgow – former home to STV and Danny Baker’s “little flat over-looking the rent”.

Or the car park in Southampton where they had to stage an episode of Motormouth?

    While we’re at it:
East Kilbride, a town outside of Glasgow for ‘The Untied Shoelaces Show’ and location of rabies scarer ‘The Mad Death’?

Newcastle Tyne Tees studio and, erm ,that hostlery Sting and Fab Five Freddy would adjourn to for steak and ale Pies…

Parkeston – near Harwich and Felixstowe. Subject of a directional mondegreen in Lenny Henry’s Screen Two debut, Coast To Coast, with hi-hi-hilarious consequences.

Bristol should be pinned up, home of Holby for many years (but no longer) and Skins…but we won’t mention that as it isn’t Cream era. Best of all is Eddie Shoestring, oh and early episodes of Being Human.

I was going to suggest Halon Menswear Ltd. 3-5 Oxford Road. Manchester, but would that be too close to the DJ Castle?

    The Mustard Shop in Norwich

Carlisle, for the worlds bleakest OB, courtesy of The 8.15 From Manchester

I’m pleased to say – for the moment – Casualty is still filming in Bristol. The Holby ambulances and unbranded Police cars were out and about last night

    Here’re a few…

Eastnor Castle, Ledbury. Location of Abner Browns clerical college in The Box of Delights

Bray Studios, Bray, Berks – The Hammer House of Horror!

Pontins, Prestatyn – Favoured holiday destination for Luxton & District Traction Company employees. No smoking in the lavatories though!

Wraxham, Norfolk – Where Michel Hordern found an unfortunate whistle.

Amberley Heritage Museum, Amberley, West Sussex – The entrance to Max Zorin’s Silicon Valley mine in A View to a Kill.

    More from me….

Python references to Cudworth (battlefield), Minehead, Bromley (Blue Midget Cafe) and Basingstoke (bale of hay, just outside of).

Ipswich, unlikely destinatiom for Russell T. Davies characters in peril

I tried to leave a comment yesterday but I don’t think it worked. I was going to suggest Ashby de la Zouch – KP Crisps.

The planet Uxarious!! Well, actually, the former Old Baal Claypit in Carclaze, Cornwall. The first outing in the TARDIS for Jo Grant in Colony In Space (1971), in fact the first outing period, in 70’s Doctor Who!

Now some sort of nature reserve which is being threatened to be turned into an Ecotown, ironically!
