Valerie

BOTTOM HOLE arse-for-the-money drabcom shoved out in this country at 3.25pm to pad out the Beeb’s first daytime schedules. Starred chronic nobody Valerie Harper as a hard-bitten career woman who – hey! can cry too! JASON BATEMAN (SILVER SPOONS, IT’S YOUR MOVE) played support. Spun off into VALERIE’S FAMILY and THE HOGAN FAMILY, to ever decreasing indifference.

Valerie’s sister in the series is the voice of Marge Simpson.

It also had Edie McClurg playing the exact same character she plays in every other thing she’s been in

“Valerie’s sister in the series is the voice of Marge Simpson.”

Not in this series she isn’t… you are the only person in the world to ever get “Valerie” confused with the much-more-successful-in-the-UK “Rhoda” (where her sister was indeed played by Julie Kavner).

‘Life can be a sweet insanity, the more you learn the less you know,
At the heart of every family there’s a *blank* that starts with letting go….’
Do do doo, do do doo, doot doot do do doot.

Put me out of my misery and fill in that blank please…..

Some 30 years before Rosanne Barr did the same, Valerie Harper managed to be sacked from her own sitcom for behind the scenes shinanigans.

This lead to her character’s death in a road accident & the gradual retitling to the show to reflect this.

For trivia fans, Valerie Harper’s daughter is Wendy Schaal, who is the voice of Francine in American Dad.
