That’s My Dog!

DEREK “NEW Faces” Hobson hosted this dogathon of a programme, boasting Yorkshire terriers heeling, going over little see-saws and so on. Owners were terrifying examples of near-humanity.

This is a terrible site when it comes to dates. That’s My Dog aired from 1984-1988, which is mid-to-late 1980s, not “early”. I shan’t be recommending this site!

It might have been the sort of show Border Television would fling out in the afternoons between A Country Practice and The Young Doctors, but That’s My Dog inspired something much bigger on BBC One that ran for two series, the unforgettable Pets Win Prizes, hosted by Danny Baker. Can’t remember much about That’s My Dog, but Pets Win Prizes was so bad it’s good television with the excellent Mr Baker in charge. One week a cat decided to annoy a pregnant Staffordshire bull terrier who was worn out by its challenge and nearly became the Staffy’s evening meal.

I think I remember this, I can remember Blue Peter having a demonstration of dogs running around a obstacle course a few years earlier.

Pets Win Prizes was a by-word for bad TV for a few years.
