Sorry Mate, I Didn’t See You!

YET ANOTHER of those preachy ON THE MOVE-style BBC educational initiatives, aimed at teaching the unwashed masses about road safety. Memorable only for the Tom Robinson-esque theme song which went – “Sorry mate, I didn’t see you/Sorry mate, I didn’t see you/Sorry mate, I didn’t see you/I didn’t see you/Ooh, sorry, mate/Ooh, sorry mate…” etc etc.

It saved a lot of lives, though. And the BBC series book was OK. It was full of cartoons ranging from a biker pissing on a copulating couple to another motorcylist with his head rammed up an elephant’s ass. That, at least, was memorable.

There are plenty of idiots out there who still need the education

Hmmm! Tim Monaghan… Coincidentally, the author of the book on which you comment, was also called Tim Monaghan!

I think it was ‘Who’s sorry now?’, not ‘Ooh sorry mate’, and sung as a kind of ghostly response. It was very affecting.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the BBC TV Series of this? if I remember correctly Neil Murray was featured on it and some great footage of a Kawasaki z1300 and CX Turbo etc great series and brings back fond memories of the good old days when there was more to life than sodding MP’s, Wars and Refugees! I would hate to be a teenager today what a bloody miserable life for them? no wonder they end up depressed and on drugs

I’m instantly reminded of the recurring cameo by top Tyneside comedian Anvil Springstein in Viz’s photo strips – whenever anyone got run over (and inevitably killed), the driver of the car was always played by Springstein, and always said ‘Sorry mate, I didn’t see him / her / you!’
