Song and the Story, The

ISLA ST CLAIR buggers off to some rural part of Scotland or something, sings some folk songs, and “investigates” the stories behind them. Soporific stuff.

I can remember Isla angrily singing a song about “The Blackleg Miner!”, which was about a scab, as they called them in the 1980s. Only this was folky and traditional, and featured Isla dressed up in 19th Century garb hounding this shifty bloke going down the pit when everyone else was on strike. Think this before the big 84 strike, or presumably she wouldn’t have been allowed to sing it.

We had a teacher at school who was Scottish and sounded and looked like Isla St Clair.
