Portland Bill

“COME WITH me to the rolling sea/Where the weather’s calm and still…” Shambling stop-motionery on a lighthouse and its secluded environs with, HERBS-style, all the characters named after shipping forecast areas. Hence the eponymous hero, plus Ross, Cromarty, Eddy Stone, Finisterre, Fastnet etc, each with their own song, a la POSTMAN PAT. Rising slowly, moderate or good.

The little dog was imaginatively named Dogger. Either Ross or Cromarty had a very high voice for some reason.

I used to get this mixed up with the earlier Cockleshell Bay, probably because it was another stop motion fun goings on in a fishing village show.

The hardly remembered Tugs had elements of this, with some Thomas The Tank Engine style sentient vehicle whimsy & a dose of Para Handy thrown in for good measure.

One boy at school had a Portland Bill t-shirt, along with a Gran one. no idea where from.
