Poldark

DREARY CORNISH period yarn charting the dreary fortunes of the titular army captain watching over his dreary Cornish estate at the end of the 18th century. ROBIN ELLIS was your chief pasty. JILL TOWNSEND, RALPH BATES, CLIVE FRANCIS and ANGHARAD “GOT ME ON MORECAMBE AND WISE” REES kissed hands and grimaced politely from afar. Much trouble afoot in t’local tin mine/hostelry/smugglers’ cove from, well, tin miners, hosteliers and smugglers. CHRISTOPHER BIGGINS played himself playing the camp local vicar.

A great British Drama. The acting was good unlike a lot of crap today.Lovely ANGHARAD Rees was so beautiful , and Robin Ellis was gorgeous.I watch all the reruns avidly, bring it back !

I was tickled pink when the new Poldark was shown last year – old Poldark (looking not bad for his age) was playing a magistrate. Nice bit of casting there!

Remade version somewhat less dreary, and apparently set in a Cornwall approximately five miles wide

The shirtless scenes from the remake have approached meme status, did the original have many?

Poldark was anything but dreary and by the studio based standards of BBC dramas in the seventies was actually quite well made and well loved by the fans. Did TVC watch a different programme to the rest of us?
