Also exposed the Look North legend Mike Neville to a wider audience when he became a stand in presenter in 1979-80. Perhaps they should have given him the gig full time, but from what he told me he couldn’t stand London beer and had to go back home to Scottish and Newcastle. Having tried London beer- the Courage ( Feather) Light comes to mind- I can see where he was coming from.

According to my Dad, one of my Irish-born Great Uncles would only drink bottled Guinness if possible as he considered “Thames Guinness” brewed at Park Royal inferior to the “Liffey Guinness” made in Dublin!
Not being a regular beer drinker I’ve not really found a problem.
