Contestants awarded jumble of correspondence at the outset from “The Department Of Hazardous Projects” courtesy of one “R.J. Bingham-Sterndale”. KRYTPON FACTOR-lite sequence of rounds – logic, observation, manual etc. – mingled with appearances from Agent X (aka Very Special Guest), culminating in GENERATION GAME rip-off playlet with Franklyn prompting hapless contestants via walkie-talkies.

I watched this as a child and recall being disappointed. I loved things about spies ( the James Bond/ Matt Helm / Derek Flint kind) but this was more John Le Carre type espionage and difficult to follow for a kid. There’s a full episode on YouTube with David Jason as the guest star and it’s an even more bonkers show than I remembered
