Long Chase, The

SEMINAL KIDS pursuit caper from pen of N.J. “DIXON” CRISP and starring ubiquitous SIMON “IT’S GREEN CROSS CODE MAN!” TURNER and JAN “JUST GOOD” FRANCIS endlessly on the run from a motorbike straddling DUDLEY SUTTON. Eponymous “chase” was a very long one, seemingly stretching across the country and over 13 episodes. Kicked off when Simes (John) got wise to his dad working for Shadowy Organisation. GLYN HOUSTON provided little help as Friendly Bobby On The Beat; BOB PECK piled on the menace. Memorable incidents included: Austin Maxi driving over the side of a cliff in slow motion; black-gloved professional shooting VIP at Edinburgh Castle, only for fake ambulance to whisk stiff away; kids nearly drowning while canoe sank in Lake District; terrifying scramble across Dartmoor pursued by rabies-infested mongrel; and boat chase denouement in North East fishing village of Hopeman.

Is there any way to persuade the BBC to either repeat this or release it on DVD ?

Simon Turner is now Simon Fisher-Turner, a respected composer. I met him about 15 years ago, through a friend. I too enjoyed the Long Chase as a kid.

It was Brian Peck, rather than Bob. Would like to see this again, 42 years on.

Brilliant series which will live long in the memory…. even though I was only 6 when it was first aired! Such a pity you can’t get these things on DVD or have a channel dedicated to wonderful series such as this. You can’t even find clips of it anywhere. Knowing the BBC wiped tapes back then, one has to wonder if this was another series that has been lost for ever? I sincerely hope not!

…and the menacing motorcyclist was Hilary Minster, not Dudley Sutton. Often filmed from ground level.

yes, correct this please. Also, Brian Peck, Rigsby’s younger brother not Bob.

I was reminded of the series today (3/8/16) when a younger Glyn Houston appeared in an old black and white film, The Great Game. I too very much enjoyed watching the series back in 1972 and well remember my younger sisters were particularly taken by Simon Fisher-Turner . If you like old stuff try Talking Pictures TV although they haven’t got around to showing any old children’s stuff yet!

Written to the BBC lots of times to release the long chase on dvd. If they can release Simon Fisher Turner’s other show Kim & Co surely the long chase too. Oh well time for another plea to the good old BBC.
